Liberation of Gornitsovo
Short Description:
Since November 5, the Thessaly Army has concentrated its efforts on occupying the wider area of Florina. On the following day, October 6, the VI Division, in accordance with an order, undertook an attempt to capture Gornitsovo (now Kelli) in conjunction with the 1st Cavalry Regiment. At noon, the 1st Cavalry Regiment, advancing to the east of the village, was attacked by Ottoman forces. However, the timely arrival of the 17th Infantry Regiment of the V Division reinforced the Greek forces and compelled the Ottomans to retreat in a disorderly fashion. The capture of Gornitsovo secured control of the area for the Greek army, thereby allowing it to extend its advance towards Florina.

Detailed Description:
Following the liberation of Thessaloniki on October 26, 1912, the primary contingent of the Thessaly Army proceeded to the territories of Western Macedonia, where the V Division had previously been the sole active unit. On November 4, after the V Division had reasserted control over the broader region of Kailaria (now Ptolemaida), the Thessaly Army initiated a series of coordinated operations with the objective of advancing Greek troops in the Florina area.
Accordingly, on November 5, the IV Division advanced to the line Sorovits (now Amyntaio) - Kolarza (now Maniaki), while the VI Division, commencing from the Edessa area, captured the village of Ostrovo (now Arnissa). On the following day, 6 November, the headquarters of the General Headquarters was relocated to the Ostrovos railway station. Subsequently, directives were disseminated to advance the IV and V Divisions to the Kirli Derven Pass (now Klidi Pass), along with the capture of Gornitsovo (now Kelli) by the VI Division. Additionally, the 1st Cavalry Regiment was instructed to relocate to the village of Gornitsovo and subsequently undertake reconnaissance missions towards Sorovitz and Eksi-Sou (now Xino Nero).
At noon, while the VI Division was advancing east of Gornitsovo, the 1st Cavalry Regiment, which was the vanguard, was subjected to an attack by Ottoman forces in the village. The intensity of the battle escalated, prompting the Division to reinforce the attack with the 17th Infantry Regiment, which compelled the Ottomans to retreat westward. Concurrently, other units of the VI Division pursued the retreating enemy forces, while the Division's main forces were deployed in the strategically crucial Gornitsovo and its surrounding areas.
In addition to the seizure of Gornitsovo, the IV Division expanded its control over the broader Sorovis region, reaching as far south as the Kirli-Derven Pass. The victories achieved on November 6th enabled the Thessaly Army to reinforce its position in the strategic Kirli-Derven Pass, reclaiming territory lost during the V Division's retreat on October 21st, 1912.
