Evangelos Natsis, also known as Georgiou or Vangelis Strebeniotis, was born in 1876 in the village of Strebeno (now Asprogeia) in Florina. He was a Slavic speaker, as his family probably came from Epirus, specifically the region of Tsamouria. Strebeniotis lived for some time in Constantinople, where he seems to have worked as a mason and milkman. In addition to his work, he was associated with the Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organization (IMRO) and participated in its activities. His expulsion from Constantinople and his return to Strebeno are probably connected with his participation in the activities of the Bulgarian Committee.

In Strebeno, he worked for the IMRO, preparing the local areas for revolution against the Ottomans. However, after disagreements with IMRO members and an unsuccessful assassination attempt, Strebeniotis took refuge in the monastery of St. Anargyroi of Cholistas (now Melissotopos) with the help of local leaders. Through the abbot of the monastery, Strebeniotis met the bishop of Kastoria, Germanos Karavangelis (1866-1935), who initiated him into the Macedonian Struggle. In cooperation with the Bishop of Kastoria, Captain Vangelis organized a small group of armed men consisting of local rebels from Strebeno and Lehovo. In the summer of 1903, Captain Vangelis' armed corps was reinforced by ten Cretans from Sfakia in Chania. It was the first mission of armed men from Crete sent by the Greek state to Macedonia.

Captain Vangelis Strebeniotis operated with his armed group against the Bulgarian Komitadjis, guarding and ambushing the outskirts of his hometown. In some of the armed conflicts, his group killed Komitadjis chiefs, such as Voevod Kyrchev and Voevod Alexis. Captain Vangelis' armed corps also made an important contribution to the resistance against the Komitadjis attempt to take Klisoura on July 20, 1903, after the Ilinden Uprising.

On May 12, 1904, around five in the morning, while returning to Asprogeia from Monastiri (now Bitola), Captain Vangelis was murdered by the Bulgarian Komitadjis in an ambush near Aetozi (now Aetos) in Florina.

The chieftain stood out for his bravery and determination, gaining recognition and posterity. Significantly, on September 16, 1904, Pavlos Melas visited his grave and promised to decorate it and order a marble cross.

The recognition of Captain Vangelis' contribution to the Macedonian Struggle remained alive in the following years, as evidenced by the initiative taken in 1930 by the former Macedonian fighter Grigorios Falireas (Captain Zakas). Falireas, who was then the commander of the IXth Division of the Greek Army, paid tribute to the chief Vagelis Strebeniotis by taking care of the reconstruction of his grave.
